Conservation is a big part of what we do at Minaret Station, both on our 50,000 acre property and on the West Coast. We set traps to ensure stoats can't eat the eggs of nesting birds like the Fiordland Crested Penguin. Great thrill seeing these two today. Conservation and tourism working hand in hand.
A special gesture. We are so grateful to the global CEO of Virtuoso Travel Matthew Upchurch for making a flying visit to New Zealand this weekend, to spend time with our owners, the Wallis family at Minaret Station. Matthew and his family visited Minaret in 2017 and were hosted by Matthew and Nick Wallis. We are so grateful for the ongoing support from the entire Virtuoso Network and their thousands of global advisors.
Minaret Station and Alpine Helicopters, proud to have been working with Fiordland Lodge since the late 1960's. A cutting edge design in it's day, with some drastic architectural enhancements since then!! Still "The Motel with a View", Andy Cunningham just let us know if you want to erect some more spectacular signage....
Winter can be a beautifully calm time of year to retreat to the Southern Alps. Here is a stunning aerial shot taken near the top of Lake Wanaka this week. Minaret Station's lake front farm blocks can be seen centre left, and the Makarora River outlet at top left. Thanks Southern Lakes Heliski #lovewanaka #minaret_station #nzmustdo #purenewzealand
Fast forward a few months from now, and we'll be amidst a glorious New Zealand Spring ... This is an excellent time of year to experience the best of the great outdoors with Minaret Station. Whether it's Fly Fishing, a Farm Tour, Mountain Biking or a spot of Spring Heli Skiing - we have have spring time in the Southern Alps covered! And don't forget our Spring Stay Three, Pay Two offer available on selected dates in September and October http://minaretstation.com/alpine-lodge/packages #minaret_station
Yesterday was a busy day on Minaret Station's farm blocks. Following the birth of young fawns in the Spring, female deer (hinds) are separated from their young in late May each year. ‘Weaning’ involves the muster of hinds and their young down from the hill blocks on the farm, and into the yards. Here, the young are separated from their mothers, grouped as female and male (hinds and stags), and moved respectively to winter in the low lying pastures through until Spring. Their mothers are mustered back up into the hill blocks for the remaining season. Images: Kieran Scott #purenewzealand #lovewanaka #minaret_station
Some seriously incredible images taken by The Travel Butler enroute to Minaret Station from Blanket Bay in Queenstown. Our return heli transfers are included in any stay at our Alpine Lodge (and due to our remote location - heli transfers are mandatory for all guests). This time of year is simply SPECTACULAR for experiencing the very best of the Southern Alps along the way. Thanks to Sarah at The Travel Butler. #purenewzealand #lovewanaka #travelstoke #NZmustdo #virtuosoInNZ
We love Autumn nights at the Alpine Lodge. Following fireside drinks and canapés, guests gather at the dining table for a three course meal, featuring Minaret's very own farm gate cuts, fresh seafood from the wild West Coast and the region's very best seasonal produce prepared by our resident Chef. #lovewanaka #purenewzealand #luxurylodgesofnewzealand #nzcuisine
