To celebrate World Theatre Day, we would like to reflect on the huge role that theatre has played in our heritage over the years. Our theatrical story began with the legendary Richard D'Oyly Carte building the Savoy Theatre, which opened in 1881, and establishing the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company which attracted admiration from all over the country as people from far and wide travelled to see his work which includes Gilbert and Sullivan's comic operas. Today guests from London and beyond travel to see the fabulous performances put on by this incredible theatre and enjoy stays at their home from home to round off the luxurious experience. What is your favourite memory from the theatre?

Two women who have had the privilege of being bartenders at The Savoy, Ada Coleman and Pippa Guy, have seen their stories mixing with those of others to make The Savoy what it is today. Ada began her Savoy story with us in 1903, creating the fabulously delicious Hanky Panky which is a staple in cocktail bars across the world to this day. Pippa followed in Ada's footsteps, earning the prestigious role of senior bartender in 2017. Their shared determination to be successful in previously male-dominated environments is a wonderful inspiration on International Women's Day!
