"One of the challenges I face as a Duty Manager is to cover the night shifts. When I was first offered this position, I was unsure if I'm strong enough to do the job. Then, I visited a night market and saw an old lady working until late. From there, I believed that this is something I can do!" – Ni Wayan Maretini, Duty Manager
Did you know: Ogoh-ogoh, the giant papier-mâché effigies built to depict demons, are made several days before Nyepi by the local youths. These effigies will be paraded around the village on Nyepi Eve and burned afterwards. Burning them symbolises the purification of human and nature from the bad things.
The Balinese Day of Silence, or widely known as Nyepi, is one of the biggest ceremonies to celebrate the New Year in the Balinese lunar calendar (Saka). Commemorated on March 7th this year, this celebration sees the whole island slowing down, with all Balinese dedicating their entire day to introspection and spiritual cleansing.
