Did you know that The Savoy was the first hotel to offer in room dining? This service means our team is always on hand to ensure that your visit feels like a stay in your home from home. There is no request too unusual, especially when dining is involved. When author Arnold Bennett stayed with us in 1929 as part of his research for his next novel, he requested that his omelette was made with smoked haddock. Our chef Jean Baptiste Virlogeux did not raise an eyebrow and instead created a dish so delicious that not only was it named after the famous author but is still available on the menu today and can be enjoyed in the comfort of your room 24 hours a day.
Enjoy the heavenly aroma of rich, velvety chocolate when you indulge in our delicious Hot Chocolate Pot served exclusively at Kaspar's. Made with the finest Andoa 70% dark chocolate mouse, pistachio ice cream and a smooth bitter chocolate sauce, this extraordinary dessert will round off your meal in exquisite Savoy style.
This August, we are celebrating 130 years of Savoy firsts and the stories that have been passed down along the way. A young boy’s childhood dream came true when he was hired at The Savoy in 1893. Little did he know that on his first day he would be cleaning the first electric lift to be installed in a hotel, known as 'The Red Lift'. Having never heard of a lift before, he befriended a colleague who showed him the 'ascending room' before allowing him to take a trip to the third floor. Quite an experience for his first day!
The Savoy is known for its iconic Afternoon Tea, a delicacy which would not be possible without the dedication of our talented pastry chefs. Our team have been perfecting this culinary delight since 1889, creating an innovative range of sweet treats which combine traditional methods with a modern twist.
Today we are delighted to be celebrating our 130th birthday, and what better way to enjoy this milestone than with a bespoke centrepiece in the beautiful Upper Thames Foyer. We would like to say a massive thank you to our talented floristry, pastry, engineering and carpentry teams for creating this stunning masterpiece. We look forward to the next 130 years of The Savoy!
Today marks 130 years since The Savoy first opened its doors! Over the years, we've welcomed many guests who have experienced our exceptional Savoy style and as we celebrate this month, we'll be introducing you to the people who help make The Savoy what it is. Sharing their experiences and passion, you'll hear from our chefs, florists, and more to discover about our excellent service untouched by time.
In the 1920s, Afternoon Tea was a dearly beloved tradition at The Savoy. Surviving menus show that today’s sandwiches, followed by patisserie were then established parts of this afternoon indulgence. Sweet treats were offset by a little gentle exercise as The Savoy offered thés dansant, where the house dance bands provided a background of popular tunes, and professional dancers demonstrated the latest steps and danced with the guests.
Celebrating special moments calls for a perfectly chilled glass of champagne! In celebration of our birthday month, and our tenth year of partnership, we've teamed with Champagne Louis Roederer to give away a magnum of Louis Roederer Cristal, their prestige cuvée that was originally commissioned by Tsar Alexander II in 1876! To enter, we'd love to hear your favourite Savoy Champagne Louis Roederer moment from the past ten years. Simply leave a comment below telling us about it to be entered into the draw! The winner will be selected at random on Monday 2 September. Full T&Cs can be found here:

In 1969, Neil Armstrong and the crew of Apollo 11 made history as the first men to walk on the moon. Pippa Guy's delicious cocktail Playing in the Stars, inspired by Frank Sinatra's beloved classic 'Fly Me To The Moon' pays tribute to this iconic moment in history and is available exclusively in the American Bar.
