We have a few sites where we regularly see mantas in Laamu but occasionally they surprise us at some #outoftheordinary locations. This weekend, guests were lucky to spend 15 minutes with Horst, one of our female residents just outside the island on Fonadhoo. At this site, we've had a few encounters with cruising mantas but we've never seen them stop to clean! #MantaMonday #Maldives #Diving
What makes your favorite sustainable resort? According to the team at reisen EXCLUSIV, Six Senses Laamu’s lush vegetation and organic garden, sustainably built villas on the beach and over water, the initiatives to recycle and conserve the environment, and most importantly the 42 complimentary flavors of homemade ice creams make Six Senses Laamu their favorite Sustainable Resort of 2019.
How lucky are we to be able to celebrate two of Six Senses' core philosophies on the same day? Yesterday, our guests started #GlobalWellnessDay with sunrise yoga, the wellness corner of our #EatWithSixSenses breakfast buffet, and an #AlchemyBar session where they learned how to make their own all-natural and plastic-free beauty products. Environmental wellness is just as important as personal wellness, which is why on #WorldOceansDay we raise awareness about how ocean health is critical to human health! #OutOfTheOrdinary #Maldives

Our Resident permaculturalist Vadi is yet again ready to impress the guests visiting Six Senses Laamu Earth Lab. This time he revives a Maldivian cultural tradition, aligned with our Eat With Six Senses guiding principles, by making 100% natural Coconut palm sugar. Unlike the cane sugar, coconut palm sugar has a low glycemic index and does not spike your blood sugar levels. Another great combination of wellness and sustainability!
What happened when some of the greatest minds in veterinary technology came to Six Senses Laamu? After two years of field testing at our local manta ray cleaning station, scientists from Manta Trust and University of Cambridge Vet School now have the world's first images of both wild pregnant and non-pregnant wild reef manta rays. Happy #EarthDay! This year's theme is #ProtectOurSpecies and we have a lot to protect right here in Laamu Atoll. #Maldives may be famous for vibrant coral reefs, but we are also lucky to be able to explore Hithadhoo's mangrove just five minutes from the resort. Today, students from Mukurimagu School visited the mangrove as part of our 'Hello Hallu' education program, as this month's lesson was on mangrove and sea grass ecosystems. Students were also encouraged to tell their friends and family about the #ProtectMaldivesSeagrass campaign. Many species of invertebrates, fish, and birds depend on these ecosystems, so we must work hard to protect them! #OutOfTheOrdinary
Who is collecting all of these eggs? Is it the Easter Bunny or our Sri Lankan chefs? We have the Maldives' first free range chicken farm at a resort and our feathered friends happily produce fresh, organic eggs for our guests. Hop on over to the Sri Lankan corner of our Asian Street Market tonight to kick off your Easter weekend with an egg-cellent string hopper! #OutOfTheOrdinary #FoodieFriday #Maldives
Nearly ⅓ of all seahorse species are classified as threatened. We were lucky enough to spot a seahorse in our sea grass meadow, which we have pledged to protect as part of the #ProtectMaldivesSeagrass campaign! Help save seahorses and their sea grass habitats by signing the pledge at www.protectmaldivesseagrass.com
This will be the best summer school of all time! Thriving sea grass habitats, one kilometer of corals on our house reef, and a unique mangrove minutes away from the resort; this is where our Junior Marine Biologists will spend most of their time exploring this summer. Sign your little VIPs up for this exciting educational experience now!
Warning: not all sea turtles are happily munching on sea grass around Six Senses Laamu! Unfortunately, we often find sea turtles, especially Olive Ridleys, caught in drifting nets during the northeast monsoon season. Luckily, we partner with Olive Ridley Project, who works to the remove lost fishing nets - or ghost gear - from the marine environment and rescue these sea turtles by sending them to local rehabilitation centers for treatment.
Today we are celebrating our 8th anniversary! A heartfelt appreciation goes out to all of our guests and partners who continue to support Six Senses Laamu and make it more than just a holiday destination, but a home away from home. We look forward to 8 more years of magic and infinity more #OutOfTheOrdinary guest experiences!
One hectare of sea grass can be home to as many as 100,000 fish! Check out some of the residents that live in the five hectares of seagrass meadows around Six Senses Laamu. What did you do for #EarthHour? Our guests had a candlelit dinner on the sandbank, stargazed with our marine biologists, and did moonrise yoga at the spa. #WorldWaterDay 2019 theme is "Leaving no one behind", as UN #SDG 6 aims to ensure the availability of water for all by 2030. Last year we donated water filters to all schools in Laamu Atoll, ensuring access to clean water to 3,724 students. Today we challenged the schools to count how many plastic water bottles they avoided throughout the day. ...
There are 3 key requirements that you should never compromise when booking a luxury resort that promotes surfing. 1. Distance from the resort to surf breaks: For us it is only up to 5 minutes! 2. Surfing sessions with no one else: If there is anyone in the water, then it is because you're bringing friends!... 3. Quality of waves: From high performance to intermediate to beginner, there are four different surf breaks for all levels! Well..we do not compromise. Do you? #SaturdaySurf #OutOfTheOrdinary #Maldives 展开
One of our most valuable ecosystems on our planet, seagrass, is being intentionally removed across the Maldives to maintain the white sandy beaches prized by the tourism industry. Today, on #WorldSeagrassDay, Six Senses Laamu's Maldives Underwater Initiative is working with Blue Marine Foundation's The Maldives Resilient Reefs Project to launch the #ProtectMaldivesSeagrass campaign to protect seagrass at resorts in the Maldives. Mobulids aren't often caught as bycatch in the Maldives, as most fishing takes place by #PoleAndLine, without large nets. Nevertheless, making sustainable choices when it comes to seafood helps to #ReduceBycatch. Last year, we removed shrimp and prawns from all resort menus, as fishing methods for these species often damage habitats and result in high amounts of bycatch. #EatWithSixSenses #MantaMonday Manta Trust Blue Marine Foundation
....and that's a wrap! We had the best ending to the longest and most exciting turtle nesting season 2018! Our Nestwatch team spent a total of 1,542 hours monitoring 31 nests over the course of 7 months to ensure that 480 guests could witness 1,452 baby turtles run down the beach into the sea! Check out this video of the very last nest hatching - a treat to be able to witness it just as the sun was setting! A huge thanks to Olive Ridley Project and our Nestwatch volunteers. #TurtleTuesday
